about

This archival release is dedicated to Roman Bramblia, whose fire continues to inspire even after he left this realm.

While our scope of releasing exploratory sounds is expanding, Searching Records originally began as an outlet to document all the group jams recorded at a warehouse in Fullerton, Ca, between 2016-2018. Musicians from different backgrounds were able to commune in this creative space, getting a chance to step away from their primary projects and explore new sounds together without limits or judgement. It was a transformative era for me and many others I'm sure.

This particular session has been in the vault for 6 years now, but it's a special one that I'm proud to finally release from the archives, with a fresh mix & master. Less than a year after this session was recorded, we would not only lose our space, but our beloved friend and comrade, Roman Bramblia.

As soon as Roman's saxophone blasts into the first track, you can feel a fire being lit under all of us in real time. While his love of music was always palpable, his playing this night felt especially impassioned. I remember as soon as everyone went home he was so enthusiastic about these jams that he stayed over and insisted I record him overdubbing more saxophone layers at key moments of the main track until 2am. When I found him sleeping on the warehouse couch in the morning, the saxophone was still in his mouth from practicing all night. This man loved music with an extreme dedication, and I will always be inspired by his passion, the way he made music theory and practicing feel like a spiritual quest rather than homework. Roman, your fire lives on always and I feel blessed to be able to share this document of how much I loved creating music with you.

with love,
ash
